Limited Examination and Appointment Program (LEAP)

The Limited Examination and Appointment Program (LEAP) is an optional pathway to state civil service for people with disabilities. LEAP is an alternative to the traditional testing process, which allows applicants with disabilities to demonstrate competency through on-the-job testing known as the Job Examination Period (JEP). People with Disabilities may pursue state employment through the standard, non-LEAP process, or the LEAP process. Visit us for details.

Diversity and Equity

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) acknowledges that communities of color and underserved communities experienced fewer benefits and a greater share of negative impacts associated with our state’s transportation system. Some of these disparities reflect a history of transportation decision-making, policy, processes, planning, design, and construction that "quite literally put up barriers, divided communities, and amplified racial inequities, particularly in our Black and Brown neighborhoods."

Caltrans recognizes our leadership role and unique responsibility in State government to eliminate barriers to provide more equitable transportation for all Californians. This understanding is the foundation for intentional decision-making that recognizes past, stops current, and prevents future harms from our actions.

Today we remember RJ Mitte, who captivated millions on Breaking Bad and far beyond. ABILITY Magazine first met RJ as a young actor in a 2009 interview with Liz Angeles and ABILITY’s late founder, Chet Cooper. Even then, RJ’s spirit shone brightly. He was funny, driven, generous and determined to use his platform to uplift others with disabilities. RJ pushed limits and wanted to show the world what people with disabilities could do when given a chance. His interview became one of ABILITY’s most memorable — both for breaking barriers in entertainment and for his advocacy and representation. We remember RJ with gratitude for his work, his voice and the joy he brought to the world. Rest in peace, RJ. Your impact lives on.
